SuperDuper 4 lands: a ground-up rewrite of the Mac backup tool, 22 years on

Shirt Pocket has shipped SuperDuper 4, the first top-to-bottom rewrite of its long-running Mac backup utility since the original debuted in 2004. The redesign traces back to a v3.0 concept sketched in 2007 that the developer shelved for nearly two decades, partly because macOS itself kept moving — new file systems, three CPU transitions, and an increasingly locked-down OS made the low-level tooling hard enough just to keep current. The new release keeps the parts that aged well, notably the plain-language “What’s going to happen?” summary and the step-by-step status view, while retiring the document-based model in favor of source-organized Copy Jobs configured inline, with a Preview mode that dry-runs a copy to show exactly what would change.
