Statichost.eu bets on full European stack for static site hosting

A Stockholm-based one-person company, statichost.eu, is pitching static website hosting where every layer of the stack runs on infrastructure owned by European companies. Founder Eric Selin frames it as a reaction to ‘European’ hosts that quietly sit on American clouds — he explicitly rules out AWS and Cloudflare for both the deploy pipeline and the CDN. The selling point is digital sovereignty: control over who operates your infrastructure and where it physically lives, with GDPR compliance built into a private-beta global CDN.

Feature-wise it covers the expected ground for the category. Sites deploy straight from a git repository, build with any static site generator, and rebuild on webhooks (a git push, a CMS update, or on demand). Custom domains come with auto-provisioned SSL, and the service offers instant rollbacks to previous versions. Branch and pull-request preview links are promised but not yet shipped. It advertises compatibility with every major git provider and generator, plus a free tier to launch a first site.

The significance is less technical than positional. Static hosting is a crowded, commoditized space, so statichost.eu is competing on provenance rather than features — a wager that a segment of European developers and organizations increasingly cares about avoiding U.S.-controlled infrastructure for privacy, regulatory, and geopolitical reasons. Its cited early users, including a global design studio and a big-tech accountability research hub, fit that sovereignty-minded audience.
