The lineup is the story: every major enterprise data and infrastructure platform is betting that a vendor-neutral gateway sitting between agents and model providers becomes a permanent layer of the stack.

The traction backs the thesis. Weekly token volume jumped from 5 trillion to 25 trillion in six months, with 8M+ developers now routing across 400+ models and a quadrillion tokens projected for the year. OpenRouter pitches itself as the routing, failover, cost-optimization, and compliance layer for production AI — the plumbing that matters once teams move past single-model pilots into multi-model agents handling real workloads.

Recent product work has pushed beyond text into image, audio, speech, transcription, embedding, and video inference, alongside enterprise features like workspaces, spend controls, guardrails, and zero-data-retention policies.
