OpenAI brings Codex coding agent to the ChatGPT mobile app

OpenAI has integrated Codex, its code-generation and software engineering agent, directly into the ChatGPT mobile app. The move pushes agentic coding workflows beyond the desktop and IDE, letting developers kick off, monitor, and steer coding tasks from their phones.

The announcement reflects OpenAI’s broader push to make Codex a persistent, multi-surface assistant rather than a tool tied to a single environment. By embedding it in the mobile client, OpenAI lowers the friction for delegating background tasks — reviewing diffs, triaging issues, or starting a build — while away from a workstation.
