Nathan Fielder's 174-Minute Theranos Doc Probes What Made Elizabeth Holmes Tick

Comedian Nathan Fielder and documentarian Lance Oppenheim surprised the Telluride Film Festival with ‘You Can See Everything,’ a nearly three-hour A24 documentary about Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes, the former Theranos CEO now serving an 11-year sentence for defrauding investors, invited the filmmakers to document the 34 days before her 2023 prison surrender, giving them access to her home life with partner Billy Evans and their children. Rather than relitigate her guilt, Fielder uses his signature deadpan skepticism to interrogate her psychology and understand how she still believes she did nothing wrong.

The film revisits the Theranos collapse — a company valued at $9 billion on the promise of running full diagnostics from a pinprick of blood, backed by investors like Rupert Murdoch and Larry Ellison and a board stacked with figures such as Kissinger, Shultz, and Mattis, despite experts warning the technology was impossible. Holmes maintains to Fielder that the device ‘worked’ and merely lacked the chemistry to run the tests, treating unsolved, uninvented science as a minor engineering ticket. The documentary leans hard into meta artifice: Fielder screens the Hulu series ‘The Dropout’ for Holmes, and after she departs for prison, recruits Amanda Seyfried — who played Holmes — to watch footage of Holmes watching Seyfried.
