macOS 27 'Golden Gate' beta hides Asahi Linux partitions, blocking dual-boot

The Asahi Linux project is warning Apple Silicon users to stay off the new macOS 27 ‘Golden Gate’ beta, which changes how the boot picker and Startup Disk handle partitions. After installing the beta, Asahi Linux installations no longer appear as boot options. The partition and its data remain intact on disk — nothing is destroyed — but there is currently no way to boot into the Linux installation from a machine running the beta.

It’s unclear whether the breakage is an accidental regression or a deliberate change on Apple’s part. The Asahi team has filed a bug report with Apple and is waiting for a response; in the meantime, the only workaround is keeping a secondary installation of macOS 26 or earlier to restore access to the Linux partition. The episode underscores a structural risk for Asahi: the project depends on Apple’s boot infrastructure behaving consistently, and a single OS update can cut off access without warning.

Separately, upstream Linux 7.2 is set to land initial boot support for Apple M3 hardware, though it isn’t yet usable for end users — and won’t matter much for anyone who has already upgraded to the macOS 27 beta.
