Free OCaml Programming Book Gets English Translation Under CC BY-SA

An introductory book on programming with OCaml is now available in English, translated by Urmila Nair from the original French edition. The translation was funded by the OCaml Software Foundation and, like the source material, is released under a Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 license, making it free to read, share, and adapt.

The book ships as a PDF (1.9MB) and EPUB (2.3MB), with accompanying source code available separately. A channel for reporting typos and errors is provided, signaling ongoing maintenance rather than a static one-off release.

The release lowers the barrier to entry for OCaml, a functional language with a strong following in formal verification, compilers, and financial systems. Open licensing plus foundation backing gives educators and self-learners a freely redistributable resource for a language whose learning materials have historically been thinner than those for mainstream alternatives.
