Firefox for iOS Ships a Built-In Ad Blocker

Mozilla has added a native ad blocker to Firefox for iOS, meaning users no longer need a separate content-blocking app or a third-party extension to strip ads out of their browsing. The feature is documented in Mozilla’s support knowledge base, which walks through enabling and configuring the blocker directly within the browser’s settings.

The move is notable because of Apple’s platform rules: every iOS browser is required to render pages with WebKit, and ad and content blocking on the platform has traditionally been handled through Safari-oriented content-blocker apps rather than baked into the browser itself. Folding blocking into Firefox brings the iOS version closer to the desktop and Android builds, where tracking and ad controls are a core part of Mozilla’s privacy pitch.
