DDR5 pricing has spiraled into territory that’s reshaping what a reasonable gaming build looks like. The cheapest 32GB kit tracked on PCPartPicker now sits at $374.97 — a set of Silicon Power XPOWER modules available only via promo code — while mainstream Corsair and Crucial kits clear $400. A year ago the same capacity routinely sold for under $100. Stepping up to 64GB now runs $680, and even a 16GB compromise kit costs around $200.

The squeeze traces back to AI infrastructure buildout consuming memory manufacturing capacity at every tier of the supply chain. SK hynix has warned the constraint will persist through 2030, and storage is following the same curve, with SSDs that recently sold for $38 now fetching $200. Vendors at Computex 2026 are conspicuously avoiding price disclosure on new products, likely because the numbers are still climbing.

The knock-on effects are visible in vendor strategy. AMD is reviving the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and rolling out a 7700X3D to keep gaming costs in check, while Intel — whose executives publicly conceded that ‘something has to give’ on memory — is extending Raptor Lake and DDR4 product lines to give buyers a cheaper escape hatch from the DDR5 market.
