Apple Overhauls iPad mini With OLED, AI Accelerators

Apple redesigned the iPad mini with an 8.5-inch OLED screen packed into the same body through thinner bezels, a form factor that now measures 5.4mm thick and carries IP67 water and dust resistance. The display delivers deeper blacks and significantly brighter peak output than its predecessor, available with an optional nano-texture finish.

The A20 Pro chip provides substantial performance gains across the board: 4.5x faster AI processing with dedicated neural accelerators on each GPU core, 2.7x faster graphics performance for gaming and 3D work, and a 60 percent CPU speed boost for multitasking. Connectivity upgrades include the N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, while cellular models gain the C2 modem for 50 percent faster data speeds. A 12MP Center Stage camera now sits on the landscape edge for video calls.

Running iPadOS 27, the tablet gains Apple Intelligence features including a redesigned Siri that understands on-screen content and personal context from the user’s digital files. Apple emphasizes that these AI features run on-device or through Private Cloud Compute infrastructure that doesn’t store or expose personal data. Pre-orders start October 28, with general availability beginning November 6.
