Ableton Ships Extensions SDK in Live 12.4.5 for User-Built Tools

Ableton has opened up Live to third-party tooling with its new Extensions SDK, shipped as part of the 12.4.5 release. The framework lets users write code that hooks into core elements of a Live Set, including tracks, clips, MIDI data, devices, and tempo.

The stated goal is automation and customization: transforming musical data, scripting repetitive work, and extending Live’s built-in capabilities without waiting on Ableton to add features. It positions Live closer to platforms like Max for Live and Reaper’s scripting model, giving advanced users a sanctioned path to build and share their own tools.
